Imagine that Nazi Germany had the first atomic bomb. At the beginning of World War II, she was far ahead of the allied countries in nuclear research: the Uranium Club was created two years before the Manhattan Project. The fear of the German nuclear project was so great that some expected the atomic bombing of London as early as the end of 1943. Therefore, the fight against it was carried out in different directions and by different people. Irene Joliot-Curie hid radium from the Germans who captured France (as her mother Maria did in the First World War). The editor of a German scientific journal pulled information from physicists and engineers and passed it on to the West. The UK sent in commandos to blow up a heavy water plant in occupied Norway. The brother of the future US President Kennedy trained to fly a plane filled with explosives; with the help of primitive electronics, it was supposed to be brought down on the V-rocket bunkers, which, it was believed, could carry atomic charges. And after the landing of the allies on the continent, the former White Guard, baseball player and friend of the chief physicist of the Uranium Club led a real hunt for German scientists.
